  • How to Change cPanel Password: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

Most of us don’t think about our cPanel password until something goes wrong.

Maybe you have just handed over your website to a developer and you want to lock things back up.

Maybe you got a suspicious login alert.

Or maybe you simply can’t remember what password you set when you first signed up.

Whatever the reason, knowing how to change your cPanel password is one of those basic things every website owner in the UAE should have down.

The good news? It’s not complicated at all.

At Truehost, we have walked thousands of customers through this, and by the time you finish reading this guide, you’ll know exactly what to do, no tech background required.

Why Should You Even Bother Changing It?

Your cPanel is basically the back office of your entire website.

From there, you can manage your files, emails, databases, domains, everything.

So if someone gets into your cPanel without your permission, they have the keys to your whole online presence.

According to Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report, over 80% of hacking-related breaches involve stolen or weak passwords.

That’s a pretty good reason to take your cPanel password seriously.

Here are some situations where you should change it right away:

  • You shared your password with a freelancer or agency and the work is done
  • You haven’t changed it in over three months
  • You’re seeing unusual activity in your account
  • You just set up a new hosting account with Truehost and want to replace the default password
  • You got locked out and had it reset

Now let’s get into the actual steps.

Method 1: Change Your cPanel Password While You’re Logged In

This is the easiest way to do it if you already know your current password.

Step 1: Log Into cPanel

cpanel login

Open your browser and head to your cPanel login page. For most Truehost Cloud customers, you just type your domain name followed by /cpanel like this:

https://yourdomain.com/cpanel

You can also get there through the Truehost Cloud client area, log in, go to your hosting package, and click the cPanel login button. Either way works fine.

Step 2: Find the “Password & Security” Option

password and security section

Once you are inside cPanel, look for the Preferences section. It’s usually towards the bottom of the dashboard.

Click on Password & Security and you’ll land on the page where you can update your login details.

Step 3: Type In Your Current Password

You will be asked to enter your old password first. This is just cPanel making sure it’s really you making the change, a good security habit. Go ahead and fill that in.

Step 4: Create a New Password

Now type your new password in the New Password field, and then type it again in the Confirm New Password field to make sure it matches.

What makes a good cPanel password? Here’s a simple rule of thumb:

  • At least 12 characters long
  • A mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
  • At least one number and one special character (like @, #, or !)
  • Something you haven’t used anywhere else

cPanel has a built-in password strength meter that scores your password as you type. Try to get it to 65 or above, anything in the green zone is a solid choice.

Step 5: Save It and Log Back In

Click Change your password now! and you’re done.

cPanel will log you out automatically after the change, so just log back in using your new password.

Make sure to update it in your browser’s saved passwords or your password manager so you don’t forget it again.

Method 2: Change It Through the Truehost Cloud Client Area

If you’d rather do everything from one place, you can update your cPanel password directly from your Truehost Cloud dashboard.

This works great if you’re managing more than one hosting package.

Step 1: Log Into the Truehost Cloud Client Area

truehost clientarea login

Go to the Truehost Cloud website and sign into your account.

Use your client area email and password, these are separate from your cPanel credentials, just to be clear.

Step 2: Go to Your Hosting Package

From your dashboard, click on Services then My Products & Services. Find the hosting package you want to update and click on it.

Step 3: Change the Password

Look for the Change Password option on the package details page.

Type in your new password, hit save, and that’s it. Your cPanel credentials are updated instantly.

Method 3: Reset a Forgotten cPanel Password

Can’t remember your password at all? No stress. Here’s what you do.

Step 1: Log Into the Truehost Cloud Client Area

truehost clientarea login

Even if you’ve forgotten your cPanel password, you can still log into your Truehost Cloud client area using your account email and client area password.

These two passwords are different, so forgetting one doesn’t mean you lose access to everything.

Step 2: Open Your Hosting Package Details

Go to Services → My Products & Services and click on the affected package.

Step 3: Reset the Password

Click on Reset Password, create a new one, and save. It takes effect right away. You can then head to cPanel and log in with the new password you just set.

Step 4: Still Stuck? Reach Out to Support

If for some reason you’re locked out of both your client area and cPanel, just get in touch with the Truehost Cloud support team.

We offer 24/7 support through live chat and ticketing, so whether you’re in Dubai at midnight or in Abu Dhabi in the middle of the afternoon, help is always there.

A Few Things to Keep Your Account Safer Going Forward

Now that you know how to change your cPanel password, here are some simple habits that go a long way:

  • Use a password manager.

Tools like Bitwarden are free, open-source, and trusted by millions of users worldwide.

They generate strong passwords for you and store them securely, so you never have to rely on memory or sticky notes.

  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)

cPanel supports 2FA, which means even if someone gets hold of your password, they still can’t get in without your phone.

According to Google’s own security research, using 2FA blocks up to 99% of automated account attacks.

That’s a massive improvement for something that takes about two minutes to set up.

  • Don’t share your main cPanel password.

If a developer needs temporary access, create a sub-account with only the permissions they need.

That way, when the project is done, you just delete the sub-account instead of scrambling to change all your credentials.

  • Change your password after any team changes.

If someone who had access to your cPanel is no longer working with you, whether that’s an employee, a freelancer, or an agency, change your password immediately.

All in All

Changing your cPanel password is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your website, and now you know exactly how to do it.

If you’re running a business online in the UAE, security isn’t something to put off.

A strong, regularly updated password is your first line of defence, and it costs you nothing but a couple of minutes.

And remember, if you ever get stuck, the Truehost Cloud team is just a message away.

We’re here to make hosting as simple and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on growing your business, not troubleshooting your account.
